Saturday Jazz Pianist VIII | Keith Jarret | Fort Yawuh | Live at Village Vanguard

Eighth week, eighth pianist. Keith Jarret is undoubtedly one of the best. Along with Charlie Haden, bass, Paul Motian, drums, Danny Johnson, percussion and Dewey Redman, saxophone, the pianist was at a crossroads in his career. Having experienced the Avant-garde experimentalism of Charles Loyd and Miles Davis, Jarret had been playing with Motian and Haden for years, Dewey Redman is a newcomer, he brings much of his experience with free jazz, Jarret really imposes himself, sometimes his intensive and percussive way of playing leaves little space for his fellow musicians. An excellent album, warmer and quite different from the austere ECM recordings of the time.
