Justin Robinson | Alana’s Fantasy

Luckily – independent labels like Criss Cross – give young musicians the opportunity to record their work – Justin Robinson appears as an alto saxophone virtuoso –  his music deserves all our attention and so do his partners in the band. The result is a greatly balanced choice of tunes and the pleasure is guaranteed! The album is also a tribute to Dwayne Burno – the bassist player who died so very young.

Jeremy Pelt | November

Jeremy Pelt was a total stranger before listening to November – not anymore – he has now become one of those musicians we have to pay attention to. A post-bopper, this trumpet player sounds sweet and acid, the tone is quite his own. JD Allen, on tenor saxophone, one of the best post bop performers, was a fantastic choice to give the album wonderful interplay moments, sometimes they sound as if they were playing alive!

Luis Perdomo | Links

Luis Perdomo put together a saxophone quartet in the most traditional way – however, influence, approach and the setup don’t make this album a traditional one. Innovation and the group’s playing make it well worth listening – a great modern jazz album based on great interaction and improvisation.

Orrin Evans: Liberation Blues

The recording took place at Smoke Jazz Club in New York City after the passing of bassist Dwayne Burno – the album is dedicated to his memory. Orrin Evans is one of the most remarkable and inventive pianists of his generation – tradition and a real contemporary approach mix so well that make this recording a real pleasure for the ears!
