Joshua Redman & Brad Mehldau @Jazz_in_Marciac 2011

Joshua Redman is one of my favourite saxophone players. Brad Mehldau is one of my favourite piano players. They play as a duo at @Jazz_in_Marciac Festival – the tune is “Cheryl” (Charlie Parker).

CHICK COREA TRIO | Tbilisi Jazz Festival 2012

I hate myself when I find a video like this: where am I going to get words to say something about it?

I chose the simplest of them all: Chick Corea, Christian McBride, Brian Blade,  Beka Gochiashvili

KNEEBODY | Jazz à La Villette 2014

If I had to try to describe Kneebody‘s music in a few words, I would be in trouble, apparently with no leader, their sonic world defies conventions of any of the genres the band approaches. I might risk some words though: electricity, telepathy, eclecticism, complexity, textures, colours, electronics, dimension, intensity… too many words to succeed in phrasing my thoughts about them!

Ben Wendel – alto sax  Shane Endsley – trumpet Kaveh Rastegar – bass Adam Benjamin – fender rhodes Nate Wood – drums

ARCHIE SHEPP | A Message From Trane

It hurts looking at some of my old vinyls and not being able to listen to them! Miraculously there are videos with some of the tracks, sometimes the whole album! That’s how I could recall A Message From Trane performed by a fabulous trio, Archie Shepp, tenor saxophone, Cameron Brown, bass and Beaver Harris, drums, at the East-West Jazz Festival in Nurnberg, West Germany on May 14, 1976, an event that gathered musicians from both sides of the Wall.

NILS PETTER MOLVAER | Live at Jazzaldia 2009

The music comes to you as if it were a landscape which is being painted as you listen to it, I love the variations in colour, the textures, the movement, the details, the contrasts, the complexity and the refinement! A real pleasure for the ears!

Nils Petter Molvær – trumpet Eivind Aarset – guitar Audun Kleive – drums

MIGUEL ZENON QUARTET || Live at Lotos Jazz Festival 2014

Miguel Zenon‘s sound – brings fluidity, soul, it comes like a dart, sharp and piercing, his Puerto Rican roots are interwoven in his compositions.

Miguel Zenon – sax Luis Perdomo – piano Jorge Roeder – bass Henry Cole – drums

CHARLES LLOYD QUARTET || Jazz à Porquerolles

I believe it is a première for Charles Lloyd on this blog – it’s been forgotten, the more I see this video –  what a fabulous quartet – the least I understand it – he is one of my favourites! It isn’t hard to figure that out!

Charles Lloyd (sax,fl) Eric Harland (dr) Reuben Rogers (b) Jason Moran (p)
Tracks: Rabo de Nube; Sweet Georgia Bright; Booker’s Garden; Passin’ Through; Caroline No; Tagi

SUNDAY JAZZ CONCERT || ROBERT GLASPER TRIO & BILAL || Festival Jazz à la Villette

There are a few guys out there that I can’t wait to see playing: I hope this Robert Glasper trio does that as soon as possible!

Robert Glasper Derrick Hodge Chris Dave & Bilal

DEXTER GORDON || Body and Soul

1978 –  I remember a powerful man blowing his saxophone with an ever so intense sweetness, the sound was unique, it was his, it was Dexter‘s, nobody can play like him. It was the time of huge concerts in improvised uncomfortable halls, thousands shared their attraction for music, most of them not sure about what they were doing yet, choosing paths, expressing their newly born freedom.
