Never too late to get to know stories like this one: both singer and pianist had never played or even practiced together before, Fred Hersch invited Nancy King as part of his Duo Invitation series at New York’s Jazz Standard, they joined before the performance, chose a few songs they both knew and then went out and played. That same year – 2006 – Nancy King was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Jazz Vocalist category for that duo album with pianist Fred Hersch. Have a listen!
