Jazz on a Summer’s Day – Jazz Documentary
Jazz on a Summer’s Day (1960) is a documentary film set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island, filmed and directed by fashion photographer Bert Stern.
It’s a good exercise to see how people were quite different back then. Their reactions – emotions – behaviour as jazz music and the America’s Cup yacht races were happening in August that year, are surprising for most of us, people living in the 21st century.
Images of the race, performers and audience of the festival evoke an era which has long gone.
